Selflessness is no act of #trust !

Today I read the following #quote:

“Selflessness is an act of #trust.”

Is that true?

How selfless must we be to be seen as trustworthy ??

Are #trustworthy people necessarily selfless ??

Must we be a “Mother Teresa” that acts selfless and is always there for others, for the poor, for the helpless, for the miserable?

Certainly not!

Who was Mother Teresa?

Mother Teresa (1910-1997) was a Roman Catholic nun, who devoted her life to serving the poor and destitute around the world. She spent many years in Calcutta, India where she founded the Missionaries of Charity, a religious congregation devoted to helping those in great need. In 1979, Mother Teresa was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and has become a symbol of charitable selfless work. She was canonised a saint by the Roman Catholic Church in 2016.

For Mother Teresa her work was all about love.

“It is not how much we do, but how much love we put in the doing. It is not how much we give, but how much love we put in the giving.” – Mother Teresa

Giving our trust and support has something to do with love, with care, with feelings.

Not with selflessness.

We must act with conviction. That people believe in what we do for them. They must feel our actions.

“Love cannot remain by itself — it has no meaning. Love has to be put into action, and that action is service .” – Mother Teresa

When we would steadily act selfless, one day we would give up our inner soul, our self-trust, our self-respect.

We could no longer see us in the mirror, see ourselves in the eyes.

Another problem is, that selfless support is too often abused. When people notice that a person is very supportive, they often tend to abuse such a good will.

Selflessness must not necessarily be a trait of a trustworthy leader.

A trustworthy leader must not be a giver.

He very well can convince as matcher. Someone who is able to balance giving and taking in his behavior and actions.

When support leads to giving up the own self-respect, then we have nothing won.

And the help of trustworthy and too supportive people is too often abused, that selflessness might convince as a positive trait for a leader.

What do you think about selflessness and leadership?

Can selflessness convince nowadays?
