Are you congruent? Are you a “whole” person?
“I look for three things in hiring people. The first is personal integrity, the second is intelligence, and the third is a high energy level. But, if you don’t have the first, the other two will kill you.” ~ Warren Buffett
We should learn that honesty is not enough for creating trust.
Congruence is very important.
But what is congruence?
We can be honest, but despite we cannot be congruent.
To most people integrity means honesty. Honesty includes not only telling the truth, but also leaving the right impression. Fact is, it is possible telling the truth and leaving the false impression. And that is not honesty.
So many people describe themselves as honest, but they are not congruent. They don’t walk the talk.
People who act in harmony with their belief system, with their deepest values, are congruent. They are not driven by false background thinking or false intentions.
Congruence leads to trust and credibility.
Mahatma was a person of congruence, a “whole” person. What he said and did was the same.
“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.” ~ Mahatma Gandi
What does that mean?
This means, we are happy, when thinking, saying and doing are in harmony. This is congruence.
In the dictionary (thefreedictionary.com) congruence is defined as a list of synonyms:
“Agreement, harmony, conformity, or correspondence.”
Congruence within ourselves lays the foundation of our life. Our life is then in harmony.
Only when we are congruent and act according to our thoughts, feelings and words can we create trust.
Congruence makes us reliable.
Honesty is not enough.
